Since our mildly auspicious beginnings in October 2009, Unpop has developed into quite a fixture of the Edinburgh music scene. Since then, we've had some fantastic guest dj sets from the likes of Pat Nevin, Withered Hand and the Edinburgh Man, put on a plethora of gigs and released a handful of tapes by Edinburgh's stupendous indie poppers The Spook School, the just brilliant Just Joans and the crazily good Coach Longlegs. Most of all, we've been engaged participants in the struggle for FUN.

Unpop's gone on tour too. We've had some excellent times dj-ing at Indietracks festival in Derbyshire, Popklubb in Newcastle, Scared To Dance and HDIF in London, and Kaffibarrinn in Reykjavik. We've also put on some indie pop dance parties in fair Glasgow.

However, Edinburgh is still its home, and our night is inextricably linked with the art school environs of the Wee Red (as well as the obligatory after party at Adam's flat in deepest, darkest Morningside...).

Come down for our 5th birthday party, where the obligatory cakes, sweets, tapes and general awesomeness awaits. Party on! Unpop with guest DJ Withered Hand

Unpop are very excited to be back at the Wee Red Bar on August 15th! Yes it's the festival, yes there will be many confused people at our club who wander in by accident, mistaking us for fringe venue 286 and our super blend of indiepop, indiepop and more indiepop for an experimental interpretative dance installation. Or something.

We are even more thrilled to announce our superstar guest DJ for the night, Withered Hand! Our very favourite local purveyor of songs about self abuse on futons, Dan is taking a night off from international indie stardom to come and spin some discs for us at the Wee Red.

Some of us have been listening to New Gods on repeat play quite a lot this year and as such we can't quite fully express how excited we are about this. We're not sure quite what to expect, except that it's likely to be brilliant. So whether you're a familiar face at unpop or a visitor up in town on your jollies, we do hope you'll come and cut a rug with us.

After seeing out 2013 in ruinously drunken style at How Does It Feel To Be Loved in London, Team Unpop return home to the Wee Red Bar for our first night of 2014. This year what has come to be our annual Valentine's/ Anti-Valentine's Bop is going to actually fall for the first time on the big day itself, Friday 14th February!

After romancing your date over dinner, where better to take him or her than for a night of crazed indiepop dancing afterwards? Seduction is 100% guaranteed with a selection of our most sexual records. Plus there will be cake.

Alternatively, if you happen to be dateless this Valentine's, come and dance with other similarly hot and single/ disenchanted and cynical local indiekids. There will be mildly offensive biscuits and balloons and excellent anti-romantic tunes and it sure beats staying in in your pyjamas and being all pathetically Bridget Jones about the whole thing, doesn't it?
